Which businesses get 400 baht even if the province rate is lower?

Besides the 6 areas in the top row, the announcement also sets 400 baht for 2 types of business in every province:

  • Hotels of categories 2, 3 and 4 under the law on hotels
  • Entertainment venues under the law on entertainment venues

So check your type of business before looking at the province table. If you are not sure whether your hotel qualifies, confirm with the 1546 hotline.

Summary of Thailand's 2026 minimum wage: highest 400 baht, Bangkok vicinity 372 baht, lowest 337 baht, same rates as from 1 Jul 2025, and what employers must check

Has the minimum wage gone up in 2026?

As of 3 Nov 2026, we have not found any new rate announcement. On 17 Mar 2026, the Wage Committee resolved unanimously not to consider an adjustment at that time, citing the impact of the situation in the Middle East on costs.

If you see a headline saying it has been "approved", check which announcement it cites and when it takes effect. If the content still says 337–400 baht and 1 Jul 2025, it is the existing rate.

When will the 2027 minimum wage be adjusted?

Nothing has been decided yet. This is all that has been reported:

  1. Mid-2026

The Ministry of Labour convened the Wage Committee to review the rates for 2027.

  2. Sep 2026

One employee-side committee member proposed raising Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan from 372 to 400 baht, with a meeting scheduled for 29 Sep. This is a proposal, not a resolution.

  3. 24 Oct 2026

Matichon reported that the meeting had been postponed several times, and the employee side is worried the adjustment will not be ready in time for 2027.

If this proposal goes through, the difference of 28 baht per day would come to 728 baht per person for 26 working days. Employers in these 3 provinces can budget for it in advance, but do not need to raise wages yet because of this news.

How is the minimum wage different from the skill-standard wage?

The news that "the Cabinet approved wages of 550–650 baht" in mid-2026 is not a new minimum wage round. It is a skill-standard wage rate for 4 occupations, tied to the occupation and skill level, and it is a separate announcement from No. 14. The minimum wage applies by area or type of business as in the table above.

Do migrant workers get the same minimum wage as Thai workers?

The minimum wage table has no separate rate by nationality, and Section 90 prohibits employers from paying employees less than the announced rate. Employers should therefore use the same table as for Thai employees, whether the worker came through MOU or a Cabinet-resolution group.

Some types of work, such as domestic work that is not part of a business, are covered by a separate ministerial regulation. Confirm with the 1546 hotline before setting the wage.

This is a line we do not cross. If anyone says that hiring through them lets you pay below this table, walk away, however cheap their service fee. And if you need to budget for a full year, wages are only one part of the annual cost of hiring one migrant worker, which also includes document fees and other expenses.

A large share of workers are employed in high-rate provinces. For the overall picture, read Number of migrant workers in Thailand 2026 and Cambodian workers in Thailand 2026.

How much is the minimum wage per hour or per month?

The announcement sets the rate per day, where a "day" means normal working hours of no more than 8 hours, and no more than 7 hours for work that may be hazardous to health or safety.

This table is an example we calculated ourselves for budgeting. It is not a legal monthly rate.

RatePer hour (8 hours a day)26 working days
400 baht50 baht10,400 baht
372 baht46.50 baht9,672 baht

Monthly employees, part-time work and overtime pay each have their own details. Confirm with the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare hotline 1546.

What is the penalty for paying below the minimum wage?

Imprisonment of up to 6 months, or a fine of up to 100,000 baht, or both under Section 144, for violating Section 90 of the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 (1998).

This penalty is separate from the penalties for employing migrant workers in breach of the rules. If your employees' documents also have problems, read more at Fines for illegally employing migrant workers.

Common misconceptions

  • "It's 400 baht nationwide now." Not true yet. 400 baht applies only to certain areas and certain businesses.
  • "The documents aren't complete, so we can pay less." The table has no separate rate by document status, and the documents should be put right as a separate matter.
  • "Same province, same rate everywhere." Chiang Mai, Songkhla and Surat Thani have districts with rates different from the rest of the province.
  • "There's news of a board meeting, so we must raise wages now." Go by the announcement that is in force, not news about proposals.

What employers should not do

  • Do not deduct document fees or other expenses from wages. Section 76 prohibits deductions from wages except in cases the law allows. If you are not sure, call 1546. And if an employee resigns after the employer paid for their documents, see the correct approach in Migrant worker resigns after the employer paid for documents.
  • Do not make a contract that states a wage below the table and assume it is settled because the employee signed and agreed. If you are not sure, call 1546 first.
  • Do not use a table from a shared image without checking the announcement number and effective date.

Checklist for employers and HR

  • Check which province or district the actual workplace is in, not just where the head office is.
  • Check whether the business is a category 2–4 hotel or an entertainment venue.
  • Compare every employee's wage with the table, both Thai and migrant employees.
  • Keep proof of every wage payment.
  • Follow the 2027 announcement instead of adjusting based on news about proposals.

If you are looking for more workers, budget for that province's rate first, then see What employers must do when hiring new migrant workers or our migrant worker recruitment service.
