Issuing Myanmar CI Book for Migrant Workers

This article refers to CI centers being open until 17 May 2026, which has now passed. Relief measures for migrant workers are time-limited and revised often. Please check the current schedule with your provincial employment office, or the Department of Employment hotline 1694, before taking any action.

New Book Issuance: For Myanmar migrant workers whose CI has expired or who have never had one.

For employers with Myanmar migrant workers under the Cabinet Resolution of Sep 24, 2024 and those granted leniency under the Cabinet Resolution of Nov 11, 2025, having complete identification documents is crucial for migrant workers to continue working until 2027.

📌 What is CI?

Certificate of Identity is a temporary passport issued by the Myanmar government to verify the identity of Myanmar nationals working in Thailand.

💡 Why get a new one?

The new CI book (green) will be valid for up to 4 years, reducing the hassle of repetitive documentation and providing more stable support for Visa/Work Permit renewals.

6 Steps for New Book Issuance

1. Book a Queue: Proceed via the online system or contact an agency to get a queue for the CI center.
2. Prepare Documents: Myanmar ID card/Myanmar household registration and the old CI book (if any).
3. Visit CI Center: Document verification, interview, and biometric data collection.
4. Payment: Pay the fee as stipulated by the Myanmar government.
5. Receive New Book: Receive the green CI book (4-year validity) on the same day or by appointment.
6. Update Information: Take the new book to the Department of Employment office to update the work permit.

There are two parts to the expenses: the fee set by the Myanmar government, paid directly at the CI center, and service fees if using an agency. Fee rates are adjusted according to announcements, and service fees vary based on the number of migrant workers and selected additional services. Therefore, it is advisable to check the latest rates before proceeding every time.

⚠️ Warning: If CI centers close (after May 17, 2026), migrant workers without a book or with an expired book will not be able to renew their visa and will be reclassified as illegal migrant workers, incurring fines for both employers (10,000 - 100,000 Baht) and the migrant workers themselves.

• Immediately check the expiration date on the CI book of all migrant workers.
• If a migrant worker does not have their original Myanmar ID card, promptly obtain a copy or prepare household registration documents as a substitute.
• Expedite the process before the last month to avoid "full queue" issues.
