In August 2026, the Foreign Workers Administration Office explained that BT.62 was still awaiting agreement on its usage conditions. In October 2026, the Department of Employment published a clarification and an infographic stating more clearly that BT.62 serves as proof of the right to work and can be used to support related procedures under the applicable rules.

What has not changed: BT.62 is an interim document, not the final one. Workers must still go through the normal process for the real work permit.

What is BT.62 and why does it exist?

BT.62, or the Temporary Work Permit, has been in use since 1 July 2026. It is a measure to ease the impact of the long queue for producing work permit cards.

Before BT.62, workers who had been approved but whose card had not yet been issued often had no document to show at all, even though they already had the right to work. BT.62 closes that gap: workers do not have to stop working, and employers do not lose staff while waiting.

Many people think BT.62 is an "express work permit" that can be requested instead of the normal application — it is not. The Department of Employment states clearly that it is not an exemption from the work permit application process.

What can BT.62 be used for?

According to the Department of Employment, BT.62 can be used as follows, under the applicable rules:

• As proof of the right to work — the worker can keep working without stopping while waiting for the card
• To support visa (endorsement) procedures — shown to officials for visa matters (for moving a visa stamp into a new passport, see New passport: transferring a migrant worker's visa stamp)
• To support registering employment with the Social Security Office

The phrase "under the applicable rules" matters — the Department has not yet detailed what each agency requires. Before taking your employee to Immigration or the Social Security Office, call the office first. It saves a lot of time.

What BT.62 cannot be used for (or has not been confirmed)

• It cannot replace the real card indefinitely — it is valid only for the specified period (the Department has not announced a general number of days; check the date on the printed document)

The 5-step path from application to the real card

1. Apply for a work permit
2. Get permission to work — the registrar approves it in the system
3. BT.62 is issued — print it from e-WorkPermit and work in the meantime
4. Wait in the queue for the real card — attend the biometrics appointment
5. Receive the real work permit card when your turn comes

How to print BT.62 from e-WorkPermit

1. Wait until the registrar approves the application in the system
2. Log in to e-WorkPermit with the employer's account or the migrant worker's own account
3. Print the Temporary Work Permit (BT.62) — free of charge
4. Check the validity period stated on the document and note the expiry date

Warning: no one can "process BT.62" for you

If someone offers to obtain BT.62 for you for a fee — that is a scam. The Department of Employment has warned about this specifically.

BT.62 is not a document that anyone can process on your behalf. Once the registrar approves, employers and migrant workers can print it themselves for free from their own accounts.
